In your owners manual there's a section about service and maintenance. All Manufacturers recommend having your appliance serviced annually to be certain of safe, efficient and proper operation.
According to the warranty conditions specified by the manufacturer of your gas fireplace or stove, the fireplace should be inspected annually by a qualified and licensed professional. We're currently asking all customers requiring annual cleanings and maintenance work to begin thinking about calling and scheduling an appointment. This is the best time of year to do so. My turn around time is much quicker than when we're in the burn season. If I discover any issues and need parts or whatever it may be, we have the entire summer and early fall to deal with it before your fireplace or stove is needed. By doing a complete system check and getting it ready to sit idle for the off season you're making sure that when that first chilly morning or night comes your fireplace or stove is going to work, and stay working at peak efficiency so you can be sure you're getting the most bang for your buck. Below is a list of all work done during an annual maintenance;
-Clean the firebox
-Clean the heat exchanger area
-Clean the burner system
-Clean the blower/fan system, if applicable
-Clean the glass
-Adjust pilot and burner to manufacturer's specifications
-Check gasket on glass assembly
-Perform a complete gas leak check at all connections
-Check fireplace for proper draft, gas log sets only
-Check/adjust thermopile, thermocouple and pilot
-Check all millivolt readings for proper voltage
-Check gas pressure inlet and outlet at the main valve for proper pressure
-Check/adjust air shutter
-Touch up painted surfaces inside the firebox if necessary
-Clean logs
-Replace embers
-Clean the entire pilot assembly
-Test fire the unit
-Test any other electrical components and connections
-Test all options(fan or remote) for proper function
-Provide all new batteries where required

There's nothing worse than needing your heating appliance for the first time of the season and it doesn't work. And the way our industry goes, usually by that time we're already booked out some weeks and wouldn't be able to get you quickly.
